Our inaugural drive

Behind the Wheel of the Bookmobile inaugural route was to follow the Lincoln Highway, America’s first cross-continental roadway. Acclaimed authors joined in, taking turns behind the wheel, stopping in small towns and conducting interviews on the books that have changed their lives in a meaningful way.

Along the way we stopped in places that had particular meaning in our country’s rich literary history to reflect on the how deeply our culture has been enriched by great books and great writers.  We will also picked up regional writers along the journey to help illuminate the bountiful cultural and literary landscape of America.
